Dementia Care

Dementia involves the loss of memory, judgment, reasoning and social skills as well as changes in mood and behaviour. It is usually caused by damage in the brain from diseases such as Alzheimer's disease or vascular disease (strokes).

At Sprucedale Care Centre, residents who have a diagnosis of dementia continue to live in a homelike setting and have the opportunity to live life to its fullest in a safe, supportive and caring environment.

Our Gentle Persuasion Approach (GPA) program is a concept of care that includes an education program for staff, incorporating research, best practice and experience. Our staff have received hours of training on other “Behaviour” focused programs such as U-First and PIECES.

Some families experience difficulty coping with dementia. Please be assured that our staff is very experienced with dementia care. Our Behavioural Support Team is available to assist staff and family should issues arise.
